When, How, and By Whom the Society and School Were Established

In the rural area of Kamptee in Nagpur district, Maharashtra, India, there lived Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari, who was well-known in the community. He was a great social worker, social reformer, and freedom fighter. Besides being involved with various social and educational institutions, he was also a prominent figure in Kamptee’s Hazrat Baba Abdullah Shah Trust.

On 25th December 1978, the nation-wide social movement activist Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari was admitted to Nagpur Medical College Hospital due to a heart attack, where he passed away. His funeral took place on 26th December 1978, and thousands of people attended. The funeral prayer was led by Hazrat Baba Abdullah Shah Rehmatullah Alaih.

On 7th December 1979, the former Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, visited the grave of Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari to pay her respects and laid flowers on the grave. She also visited his family members at their home.

Mrs. Indira Gandhi, while consoling the family of Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari, said, “He was like my elder brother. I am inspired by his social service. If he had any last wishes, please let me know.” At that time, Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari’s wife and family members requested that the mission of Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari—who dedicated his entire life to uplifting society—should continue, especially by providing free modern education from primary school to college to all boys and girls in the underprivileged community.

Mrs. Indira Gandhi then encouraged the family to establish a society and start a school in the name of Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari.

In 1981, the sons of Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari, along with community members, established the “Kamptee Citizens Education and Cultural Society” under proper registration. In the same year (1981), a school named “Shaheed Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari High School” was founded.

The formation of the society and school was done with the cooperation of various social workers from Nagpur and Kamptee, along with the sons of Seth Kallan Miyan Ansari: Haji Ata Mohammad Ansari, Jan Mohammad Ansari, Noor Mohammad Ansari, and other supporters like Mohammad Yaqub Qamar, Shamsuddin, Pir Mohammad Ansari, Fajlurrehman Ansari, and Mohammad Yusuf. Their significant contribution helped establish the society and the school.
